Sweet and delectable, cookies are loved by almost everyone all around the world. They come in many flavors, textures, and colors, but one cookie has recently climbed to the top of the dessert food chain: The Crumbl Cookie. Known for its size and flavors, Crumbl has blown up across social media, and with new flavors coming out weekly, it’s no surprise that it became widely recognized as the best cookie company around, catching the attention of the likes of Kylie Jenner and Olivia Rodrigo. @shhhhimeating, on instagram, has posted a video trying Crumbl’s new flavors every week since June 13, receiving between 3 million and 13.7 million views for each one.
Jason McGowan and Sawyer Hemsley founded Crumbl in Logan, Utah (2017), in hope of making cookies that brought people together. They had both cherished memories related to cookies in their childhood, and wanted to encapsulate that feeling in the very thing that had first given it to them. Crumbl Cookies were designed to be shared, it’s why they’re so large. The rotating menu also brings a unique air to the company, and the variety of the cookies contributes to its popularity.
One person, interviewed at Crumbl, had flown all the way from Belgium. “So my sister told me that she’s been watching those TikTok videos about Crumbl. It’s not that she says that it looks really good, but she’s seen so many that she had this obsession of trying one when she would come to New York. So that’s why we were around and we were just coming out.”
Despite Crumbl’s success, the nutritional aspect of the cookie could be quite worrisome. 720 calories is the average for a single Crumbl cookie, and for comparison’s sake, a McDonald’s Big Mac is 590 calories. Cookies were supposed to be dessert, a light, complimentary meal after the main dish, but now the main dish is overshadowed. This begs the question: “is Crumbl a fun treat or really just an unhealthy indulgence?”
Although the cookies were designed to be shared, the cookies are too delectable. The temptation to devour the entire thing all on your own is too strong, and this leads to little moderation when it comes to these tasty treats. This is exemplified by a student at Goldstein, one particularly enthusiastic about Crumbl. They were interviewed about their experience with the cookie and claimed to have spent $100 just that month, attributing their enthusiasm to the flavors released every week.
Like all sweets, (all food, actually) cookies must be eaten in moderation, but Crumbl cookies make it tough. They are too good for their own good! Crumbl has great taste, variety, and a unique gimmick to it; whether that is enough to make up for the health risks that accompany it is completely subjective. Sometimes one just feels that they deserve a treat, and there is nothing wrong with that.
